Video Transcript for Review of Weigh Safe OEM Gooseneck Ball - WS74ZR

Hello, everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this Weigh Safe Safe Load OEM Gooseneck Ball Hitch. Has a 30,000 pound gross trailer weight rating. Now this Safe Load OEM Gooseneck ball is a 2 5/16 diameter tow ball that's made of a nice high strength stainless steel with a single gauge here that'll show you the tongue weight of your load as soon as you connect your trailer to the ball. This kit is gonna include everything shown here on the table. It includes the gooseneck ball with the gauge, the two locking keys to lock the ball into place, two safety chain anchor pucks, a rubber cover, and a nice hard plastic carrying case.

Now this automatically provides a tongue weight measurement every time you couple your trailer. Basically, it'll let you know if your load needs to be adjusted before you start to tow. The safety chain anchors that are included are compatible with any OEM puck system, either the Ford, the Ram, Nissan, Toyota, GMC, or Chevy. We mentioned the gross trailer weight rating on this is 30,000 pounds. Maximum tongue weight is 7,500 pounds.

Now, before this gooseneck hitch, gauging your trailer's tongue weight or pin load weight was always a hassle, 'cause you had to rely on inefficient bathroom scales, or you had to make a trip to the weigh station, or even purchase a separate tongue weight scale. But with this Weigh Safe built in scale, measuring your tongue weight is as easy as just coupling your trailer to your to neck hitch. Now we're talking about tongue weight. You might want to know what is tongue weight and why is it important. Well, tongue weight are also known as pin load weight, refers to the weight that the fully loaded trailer will exert downward on the back axle of your tow vehicle.

Tongue weight is typically 15% and should not exceed 25% of your gross trailer weight. So just to give you an example, a 10,000 pound trailer should have a tongue weight between 1,500 pounds and 2,500 pounds. And then you can adjust that tongue weight of the trailer by either removing or adding cargo or redistributing the load on the trailer. Thing you do wanna remember is tongue weight should not exceed the capacity of your tow vehicle, your hitch, or any of the towing components. Now, just to go through how to install this, what you want to do that has a lock on it.

So just pop off the cover, and there's your lock, the two keys that are included. You'll just put the key in there. And then once you put the key in there, just turn it a quarter of a turn, and you'll notice the lock body pops out. That means it's unlocked. And you'll notice the balls down here are loose. So when you go to install this, you'll drop this into the gooseneck hole. Once it's in the hole, you just push in it, and you'll notice that locks it and the balls are all locked in the position. And it'll stay in there, which means you're ready to go. Just put your cover on and put your cover back on. You're all set to tow. Now all you have to do, usually, what you'll wanna do is make this gauge pointing towards the rear, so it's visible to see it when you hook up. But what you'll do is just simply hook up the trailer to the gooseneck ball just as you would any other gooseneck hitch. And then what happens is the weight of the trailer's gonna push down on the gooseneck ball, which in turn pushes down on an internal hydraulic piston that'll sit on a bed of oil. When that piston drops into the oil, then the pressure reading is sent out to the scale to tell you your tongue weight. And then the last thing you wanna do is they include these safety chain anchors. These you do one install into two rearmost pucks. And the way you install 'em that's pretty nice is you'll start off like this, and then you'll drop these tabs into the pucks in the OE system. When they drop in, you'll just rotate this clockwise. And when you do that, it locks it into place. And now you have your opening for your safety chains to go through. Same way on this one. You'll drop it into place, rotate it, and you hear it lock, it's spring loaded. Now you're ready to go. And it keeps them from twisting. And then when you're not using this, this rubber cover can go into the ball hole to keep any dirt or grind from getting into it. And then the last thing I just wanted to show you is we talked about this hard plastic carrying case keeps everything all together, and doesn't let it get damaged. So what I want to show you, it's pretty unique. You just open it up, drop it down, you'll be able to see how it has spots for everything to go. So that's pretty nice. Keeps everything from hitting each other. So what you're first gonna do is take the, and that'll lay right in here, and then you'll put your rubber cover right there. So it's really nice is it keeps that gauge from getting hit or damaged, gives you an accurate reading, and then you just take your anchors, drop them into those places right there. And in your keys, there's a little hole there, you can drop those in. And then just close your case, slide these to lock it. And just like that, you're ready to go. Carry everything in here altogether, and keep it from hitting each other and damaging. But that should do it for a look at the Weigh Safe Safe Load OEM Gooseneck Ball Hitch.

  • How Much Taller is Weigh Safe Safe Load Ball Compared to B&W Ball
Hi Kelly, nice setup! The Weigh Safe Safe Load Ball # WS74ZR measures 8-3/8" from the base with an overall height of 11". The same measurement on the B&W # BWGNXA2061 is 5-3/4" so it will sit approximately 2-5/8" taller once installed. More than likely that will be enough to get your the clearance you need when parking. • Does the Weigh Safe Safe Load Ball and Anchor Kit WS74ZR Work w/a Anderson Ultimate 5th Wheel Hitch?
No, I am sorry Dan it will not. The Weigh Safe Safe Load Ball and Anchor Kit item # WS74ZR is going to be too tall for a Anderson Ultimate 5th wheel hitch like item # AN77VR. You'll want to use either a regular gooseneck ball like item # C60692 or the Andersen Ultimate Connection Adapter for Factory Gooseneck Hitches w/ Pop-In Balls item # AN27VR. What kind of trailer are you pulling?

  • How Tall is the Weigh Safe Safe Load Ball and Anchor Kit WS74ZR?
Hey Denise. The top of the gooseneck ball on the Weigh Safe Safe Load Ball and Anchor Kit item # WS74ZR is going to sit 8-3/4" from the lower ridges in your F-350's bed or 8-1/4" from the top of the taller ridges.
